Debut album released on Raucous Records
March 26th is the official release date for Jay’s
new Rockabilly album on Raucous
Records.
The album entitled ‘Rock ‘n Roll Fever’
contains ten new tracks recorded recently on vintage equipment to re-create
the Sun Studios sound, plus seven previously un-issued demo recordings
made in 1959 and 1960. A follow-up album is already being planned.
Jay
interviewed on Radio Caroline
On 6th March Jay was interviewed by Dell
Richardson on his ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight’
programme for Radio
Caroline. He reminisced about his early
career at the 2I’s Coffee Bar and the people he knew and worked
with, and also sung and played a number of songs live.
His new album ‘Rock ‘n Roll Fever’ on
Raucous Records was also aired and copies given to
listeners who correctly guessed the answer to a ‘phone-in’
competition based on the track ‘Woman Love’. Howard
and Anya from Raucous Records were
also interviewed on the show talking about, and playing tracks from,
their latest releases and back catalogue.
Personal
appearance at Rock 'n Roll Club
Friday 9th March saw Jay making
a personal appearance; backed by the superb rockin’ group ‘The
Ravens’, at the Borough Green Rock ‘n Roll Club
in Kent at the request of Richard Miles who runs
the club. Richard was a former drummer in Jay’s group the Chancellors
and contacted him after seeing his name in the magazine UK
Rock.
2I's Reunion Concert
As
a former resident singer at the famous 2I’s Coffee Bar in Soho’s
Old Compton Street, London in the late fifties, early sixties,
Jay was asked to perform at the sell-out ‘2I’s
Reunion’ concert at the 100 Club, Oxford Street, London
on Sunday 28th January with Chas McDevitt,
Vince Eager, Terry Wayne, Wee Willie Harris, Buddy Britten
and many more.
The reunion celebrated the fact that the original site of the 2I’s
now has an official historic blue plaque commemorating that it is
the recognised birthplace of British Rock ‘n Roll.
As the concert was sold out weeks in advance, with a huge waiting
list for returned tickets, the promoters ‘Tales
From The Woods’ are in discussions to book
a larger venue for a return date possibly later in 2007 - details
to be announced.
